Job Purpose

The Project Accountant plays a key role within Nomodic’s Finance team. Reporting to the Controller, the Project Accountant is responsible for monitoring the progress of projects, investigating variances, approving expenses, and ensuring that project billings are issued to clients and payment collected.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Project Accountant performs some or all of the following duties:

  • Maintain project-related records, including contract and change orders
  • Lead in budget development (WBS/CBS development), progress measurement, cost forecasting, and preparing monthly internal and client cost reports
  • Create project accounts in the ERP system
  • Authorize access to project accounts (WBS codes)
  • Authorize the transfer of expenses into and out of project-related accounts;
  • Responsible for invoice verification for project related costs
  • Ensure timely payment to subcontractors and vendors after approval is received and all documentation has been submitted.
  • Participate in resolution of issues in execution of cost and schedule to verify effective planning and implementation of cost management processes
  • Review and approval of overhead charges to be applied to a project
  • Responsible for monthly accrual information to provide accurate information and cash flow
  • Project cost analysis: analyzing and corroborating data for internal and external cost reports
  • Prepare and lead in budget analysis, commitments, actual cost and cost variances
  • Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management
  • Report on project profitability to management
  • Report to management on any opportunities for additional billings
  • Prepare customer invoices and review/follow up on outstanding accounts receivable
  • Investigate all project costs not billed to customers
  • Respond to requests for more detail from customers
  • Close out project accounts upon project completion
  • Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Knowledge of IFRS
  • Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in accounting
  • 3+ years’ financial experience in the construction industry
  • Previous experience in project accounting and financial analysis
  • Experience using Maestro ERP considered an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must be able to prioritize workload and work with deadlines on short notice

  • Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Project
  • Extremely organized and focused
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently

Working Conditions

  • Work weeks are 5 days, Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, with variable times due to workload
  • One hour unpaid lunch break
  • Open concept work environment with regular flow of people and in the office
  • Frequently assigned changing priorities
