Nomodic to provide quick deployment, common sense solution for Nanaimo’s “Tent City”
CALGARY, AB - Nomodic, a design-build firm specializing in the unique integration of hybrid modular prefabricated components and traditional craftsmanship – announced today that it has been awarded the contract to provide temporary supportive housing units in response to an urgent need for housing in Nanaimo, including those at the 1 Port Drive encampment.
This contract includes retrofitting full operational and modular facilities with 24/7 support and services scheduled to open for residents in November. Providing residents with shelter from the fast approaching winter weather, and to address safety concerns, will involve the challenge of safely deploying the required equipment and infrastructure at a rapid rate.
Nomodic's unique flexible model and experience with designing and constructing permanent modular buildings has fostered strong relationships within the industry. This has provided them the ability to respond rapidly and meet the challenge with the optimal solution.

Nomodic's turnkey and hybrid approach to prefabricated construction ensures a rapid and efficient response. In addition, their relationships within the industry and access to existing modular building inventory gives them the ability to handle all aspects of the project, including transport, site development, on-site installation, and retrofit of the modular units.
"There are very few companies able to pull all of those tangibles together in such a condensed timeframe," said Read, adding that the challenge is more than just logistical. "There's a lot of firepower and expertise required, which we bring to the table."
This combined with Nomodic's previous contract with B.C. Housing's Rapid Response to Homelessness Initiative, which includes building supportive housing complexes in Smithers and Terrace, has showcased their unique model and flexibility, especially in emergency situations and other circumstances requiring rapid response solutions.
