“Every Canadian deserves a safe and affordable place to call home.” – The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion
With Canada facing an unprecedented need for housing, the Government of Canada and CMHC are partnering with communities and the construction industry to leave things better.
What is the Rapid Housing Initiative?
The Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) funding program is helping to address the urgent housing needs of vulnerable Canadians. It has contributed to the rapid creation of over 10,000 new permanent affordable housing units to date. The initial round of funding—CN $1 billion—went towards modular buildings.
Applications are now being accepted for the $1.5 billion third round of the funding program, which will help facilitate the rapid construction or conversion of an additional 4,500 units. The funding supports the new construction of single units up to larger multi-unit projects, including those built using offsite construction.
Why are Nomodic’s offsite/modular construction methods an ideal solution under the RHI?
Through first-hand experience, we’ve seen the benefits of the program and Nomodic’s model to communities. Modular construction has proven to be a preferred building solution under the RHI, with numerous benefits including improved speed, scalability, and reliability, less waste, fewer disruptions to communities, and easier delivery to rural communities. For more information, see The Nomodic Advantage.
What is Nomodic’s experience?
Nomodic is proud to have utilized its integrative and flexible model to successfully deliver several buildings supported by this program. To date, some of our experience on this initiative includes:

- West Moberly First Nations Housing Development (West Moberly, B.C.)
And others in progress, including a 40-suite transitional affordable housing complex in Sudbury, Ontario.
